The client had recently moved into a propery built in the 1950's and wanted to modernise the property. The previous stairs creaked and had a dated guide rail. Also, the space under the stairs was serviced by an extremely small door, making it difficult to enter and wasting much of the space beneath.
The stair rail was removed and replaced with a dark hardwood and glass, providing a contemporary look. Additional fixings were placed in the stairs to prevent creaking, and laminate wood flooring was used on top of the steps, which added further cushioning. Much larger doors were placed in the side to provide full access to the space below. LED lights were also added under the glass to create a soft lighting effect at night.
